SafeTravelPH Mobility Innovations Organization (SafeTravelPH) has started a capacity building program with government agencies and Philippine think tanks that work on public transport and active mobility. The training event, "Mobility Data Analytics and Network Planning" had its first on-site session at the University of the Philippines - National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG) last March 26, 2024.

Participants from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Road Sector and Planning and Program Development offices, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), Clean Air Asia (CAA), UP-NCPAG, UP National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS), were provided with tools to work on various data analytics exercises with real-world data from big data sources, field surveys, mobile app-based trip data, and many more.

Specifically, the participants are expected to learn to use R statistical programming software to learn to analyze and code the datasets on public transport trips, networks, ridership, origin-destination and mode estimates, and active mobility preference surveys and trip records. The program also serves as a platform for different actors in the local transport to understand new concepts in mobility vis-a-vis their current project and data gaps and challenges.

The program will run until May 2024 and will include online feedbacking sessions and information exchanges related to how the tools can be used in the actual work of the participants and their colleagues in the workplace.
