The Poverty Impact and Vulnerability Estimator (PIVE) System, a technology innovation project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), launched its developed solutions in a two-day event held at the ADB Innovation Hub, Pasig City. The project team that includes innovators from Japan, led by Dr. Ryosuke Shibasaki, Chief Technology Officer of LocationMind, the main project proponent of the project, together with the local partners in SafeTravelPH and Salt Payatas Foundation, conducted a series of workshops and face-to-face meetings with various agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
PIVE's core features include Mobile GPS data analysis that facilitates the monitoring and visualization of people's movements, including commuting and various daily activities. Additionally, satellite mapping, which offers an invaluable tool for monitoring the expansion of urban settlements, with a particular focus on informal settlements. What makes PIVE truly powerful is its ability to merge this macroscopic information from satellite mapping and mobile GPS data analysis with detailed field data collected through rapid community survey application for ground validation. Meanwhile, the integration of Chatbot technology further facilitates real-time information gathering, especially in crucial situations like typhoons and other disasters.
The workshops held on April 25 and 26, 2024 were participated by representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Quezon City Disaster Risk Redication and Management Office, UP National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS), UP Resilience Institute (UPRI), Move As One Coalition, MapakalamidadPH, and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy.
Follow up meetings for data sharing and potential use cases in their projects were also done with the Department of Transportation Planning and Project Development Office, Quezon City Planning and Development Department, UP National College for Public Administration and Governance (UP NCPAG), UP School of Urban and Regional Planning, (UP SURP), DHSUD, Technical Assistance Movement for People and the Environment Inc (TAMPEI), and researchers from the UP National Institute of Physics.
