The ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (SEAS) and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) has acquired the services of SafeTravelPH to lead the baseline study of walkability and cyclability of selected pilot sites of their Tactical Urbanism project called SPARK or "Sparking active mobility actions for climate-friendly cities".
The SPARK Project was formalized thru an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the city governments. Quezon City Mayor Hon. Joy Belmonte and Pasig City Mayor Hon. Vico Sotto launched the initiatives on 25 July 2023 during the MOU signing and kickoff workshop.
SafeTravelPH is expected to conduct a series of data collection, group discussions and consultations, workshops, and presentations in the next couple of months for developing qualitative and quantitative baseline walkability and cyclability assessment reports for Pasig City and Quezon City, from city to neigborhood and site level assessments. The pilot sites selected for the study and interventions are Mahinhawa St. in Quezon City, and Mabini St, in Pasig City.
SafeTravelPH, ICLEI, and ICSC will follow the EcoMobility Shift framework enhanced for Philippine context using SafeTravelPH data tools and local research expertise.
